Kudos to the Globe for the great Spring Training info on the website. Our family is staying in Pompano Beach for the week (leaving Saturday 2/16). I decided to make the 2.5 hour drive from Pompano to Ft. Myers for Pitchers and Catchers reporting day. I was disappointed to find out that workouts were closed to the public until Saturday. That is the one thing that could have been stated on the Globe's website that would have better prepared me on what to expect when I got there.
I did stand outside the complex with a combination of fans and Ball Hawks waiting to snap a few pictures and hope for an autograph or two. Manny Delcarmen was the only player willing to sign in the three hours I stood out there. I can see why the players are apprehensive about signing since a few of the ball hawks chased them down the street and even jumped in the car and followed them down the street.
I did see Amalie leave the complex, it was good to see her. Before leaving town, I stopped at the Red Sox shop at City of Palms and picked up a few things and was able to go into the park and take pictures which was nice. Overall, my first trip to Ft. Myers was worth it and the next time I venture to Florida's West coast I will have a better feel for what to do.
Thanks again for the information. Go Sox!
