Sox to visit White House today
Members of last year’s Red Sox team will fly to Washington, D.C., today to meet with President George W. Bush at the White House, an honor that comes with winning the 2007 World Series.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona and players, coaches, and field staff from last year’s team will fly from Fort Myers, Fla., to D.C. following this morning’s workout and are expected to meet with President Bush at approximately 3:05 p.m. Executives John W. Henry, Tom Werner, Larry Lucchino, and members of the Red Sox ownership group and front office will also attend the White House ceremony. Any Sox player who appeared in a game last season is invited to go, according to team publicist John Blake. It remains to be seen if they all will go.
This will be the team’s second trip to the White House in four years. Click here to check out photos from their visit in early 2005. We'll post photos after their visit today as well.
As they did after winning the Series in 2004, the Sox also plan to visit Walter Reed Army Medical Center to visit wounded veterans.
"You're looking at kids who have lost limbs," Francona said, recalling the previous visit. "It was humbling. It was an honor to be there. I didn't hear one [player] say, 'Hey, let's [leave].' Everybody wanted to stay and talk. I've heard a lot of the veteran guys telling the younger guys, 'Hey, this is what you'll remember about this trip.' "
The Red Sox will return to Fort Myers this evening. You can watch the White House proceedings on NECN.
Information from the Globe’s Gordon Edes was used in this report.

It is nice of them to visit Walter Reed.In fact they should skip the White House altogether. The only one who will be disappointed will be Schilling he drinks the Kool-Aid.
U.N.? Perfect name for a liberal.
PS - Most of the players are republicans you maroon -- Lowell, Schilling, Papelbon, Varitek, Wakefield, Beckett, Francona.
Remember no matter what your political beliefs are it is still an honor to meet the President at the whitehouse. It is not something you get to do everyday!
Obviously U.N. Owen doesn't know the politics of most of the Red Sox players. I am sure most were honored.
I'm glad then went to Walter Reed ... we can not thank the men and women who guard our Country enough.
Great site, Good info
