Tidbits from Terry

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff February 22, 2008 05:22 PM

Manager Terry Francona spoke earlier today about the first full-squad workout of the spring, on a day that hit the mid-80s.

"The sun shining, it's hot," he said. "Everybody looked ... again, the first day is not a day to be in midseason form. We're trying to get prepared to work. We go at a little bit of a slower pace today than we will the next six, seven days. All the running is done on flat ground. We'll do a little baserunning tomorrow. Nobody faces pitchers, that will start happening tomorrow."

On his meeting this morning, with all the players in camp: "I certainly don't really show up to be Knute Rockne."

The meeting was more about introductions, explaining how Francona feels about certain things, though he said he tried to keep his message to a minimum.
