An old hand

Posted by Dan Shaughnessy, Globe Staff March 3, 2008 06:45 PM

Old friend Tony Fossas is pitching coach at Florida Atlantic University and will be watching his hurlers throw against Boston College Tuesday and Wednesday. Fossas said he was interviewed for more than an hour by those assembling the Mitchell Report. ‘‘I must be naive, ’cause I played with Mark McGwire and Rafael Palmeiro and I never saw anything,’’ said Fossas ..... Sox legend Carl Yastrzemski won’t be in Fort Myers until the middle of March and has been asked to work with David Mailman, who was drafted out of high school in the seventh round last June ..... Unlike last year, the Red Sox bus did get lost on the trek across the state. It took the Sox two hours and 50 minutes to commute to work. ‘‘We didn’t go through lion country this year,’’ noted Sox manager Terry Francona ..... The Sox play their final game against the Dodgers in Vero Beach Sunday. Is it too early to start ‘‘Sox moving spring training to Vero’’ rumors? ‘‘Not going to happen,’’ Sox owner John Henry said, via email.
