A's strike first

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff March 25, 2008 06:20 AM

TOKYO -- He might have gotten a massive welcome from the fans -- just as big as the one for Hideki Okajima on Sunday night -- but it didn't take long for Daisuke Matsuzaka to get another sort of welcome.

After Travis Buck grounded to second base, Mark Ellis smashed a fastball into the front rows of seats in left center field. It's now 1-0, A's.

For the Sox, Dustin Pedroia singled up the middle to lead off the game, but was stranded on second base.
