Beckett out with back spasms

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff March 8, 2008 01:27 PM

Josh Beckett apparently lost his footing on the mound during his warmup pitches. He left the game due to spasms in his lower back. He's being further examined right now.

We'll get you updates as they come.

  1. Back spasms are NOT fun. I suffered with them during a six-month period when I was in college. As 22, I had to walk with a cane because my legs wouldn't support me. It was something simple as slipping on some ice and then they started. One day, out of frustration, I tried to crack my back and something popped. Eventually, they subsided. (I had gone to the Doctor and nothing was "out of place.") Rest him and get him ready for the season. If the spasms don't get the chance to rest, they can last a long while.
