Oki ovation

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff March 23, 2008 08:45 AM

TOKYO -- Sure, they were standing for the end of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," but still Hideki Okajima got a giant ovation from the crowd at the Tokyo Dome when he came in to pitch the bottom of the eighth inning in Sunday's exhibition game against the Yomiuri Giants.

His Oki-Doki song played over the sound system and the flash bulbs were just about blinding. Seriously, it looked like the first pitch of the World Series. Okajima pitched from 1995 to 2005 for the Giants, then pitched one season for Hokkaido before coming to the Red Sox.

Clearly, they still love him here.
