Out of the first

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff March 25, 2008 06:33 AM

Daisuke Matsuzaka certainly got himself into a jam in the first inning -- but he also got himself out.

After loading the bases on a walk, hit by pitch, and walk, Matsuzaka made a stellar play on a bouncer just inside the third base line, grabbing the ball barehanded and throwing off-balance to first base. But Daric Barton scored on the play.

Then he struck out Jack Hannahan swinging.

A's, 2-0.

  1. Well he got out of bases loaded. Its hard to be on a guy in the first game, but his initial outing is just a continuation of the issues from last year - lots of pitches, giving up runs early, not much control. Was hoping for better; but again its the first game. Lets see how he's doing by the end of May...
