Sox get one...

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff March 26, 2008 07:53 AM

Manny Ramirez just sent a blast into the seats in left field, his first home run of the season, on a 1-1 pitch.

Good thing it left the park (or at least the field of play), because Ramirez stood in the batter's box and watched it all the way until it settled into the stands. (He did the same on his double yesterday that won the game for the Sox.) He then started trotting around the bases, as he made the score 4-1.

The crowd seemed to think that the Sox were going back-to-back, but Mike Lowell's long fly ball came down easily into the glove of centerfielder Chris Denorfia.

  1. He didn't stand there as long as yesterday.

  1. Manny is quickly taking my “least favorite player” award away from A-rod. For how talented and how great an athlete he is, he sure doesn’t like to show it. Instead he likes to watch his hits (even if they don’t leave the park), not run out ground balls and let looping fly balls fall for singles gently in front of him.

What kind of message does it send when the kid in the 7th row wearing the Ramirez jersey see’s him walk down the line when he grounds out to 2nd base. He gets paid Millions upon Millions to PLAY A GAME, the least he can do is pretend like he’s trying.
