Sox seize lead

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff March 12, 2008 01:31 PM

The Red Sox have already taken a lead in today's big game. You might remember, after all, that though the Twins have dominated the Mayor's Cup, the Red Sox won it in 2004 and 2007. Draw your own conclusions there.

It's 2-0, with the first run scoring on Jacoby Ellsbury's walk, stolen base, and an RBI double by Manny Ramirez. The second came on Jason Varitek's second home run of the spring.

On the other side, Clay Buchholz has gotten through a first inning of an outing without allowing a run, a first for him this season. He did commit an error, on a bunt by Carlos Gomez that he bobbled, but it ended up not costing him.

  1. I now have an irrational need to see the Sox win this game now that you bring up the '04 and '07 thing. Thanks a lot - before I couldn't care less about the Mayor's Cup....
