Sox-O's affair

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- It’s hot and swampy here on the east coast of Florida and there’ll likely be rain someday during the day as the Red Sox and Orioles play a split-squad game.

Sox bench coach Brad Mills is managing the Boston nine at Fort Lauderdale Stadium and Boston fans are quickly filling up the place.

The lineups:

Red Sox
Jacob Ellsbury - CF
Jed Lowrie - 2B
Kevin Youkilis - 1B
Mike Lowell - 3B
Brandon Moss - LF
Alex Cora - SS
Bobby Kielty - RF
Chris Carter - DH
Dusty Brown - C
Julian Tavarez - P

Orioles
Brian Roberts - 2B
Melvin Mora - 3B
Nick Markakis - RF
Kevin Millar - 1B
Aubrey Huff - DH
Ramon Hernandez - C
Jay Gibbons - LF
Luis Terrero - CF
Luis Hernandez - SS

Mike Lowell, who lives in Pinecrest, Florida and played at Coral Gables High and Florida International, was a big hit with the local media and did several interviews in Spanish . . . The bus ride over was two and a half hours . . . Sox manager-for-the-day Mills reports that his son, Beau, is 3-7 in the major league camp with the Indians and hit a home run against the Astros . . . Old friend Dave Jauss, is a bench coach with the Orioles this year. Jauss worked with Grady Little and the Dodgers before moving over to Baltimore . . . The Orioles are high on rookie center fielder, Adam Jones, hitting .500 thus far this spring. He’s sitting out today due to a tight back . . . Millar said he wants to throw out the first pitch today. Looks like a no-go on that one.
