Dancing with the Sox
No, it was not Julio Lugo's shirt, despite the joking from Javier Lopez. The black lace shirt, given to Jonathan Papelbon by his dance instructor, was actually a $1,000 Versace number, according to the closer-turned-dancer.
Gussied up for a private dinner benefiting the Mike Lowell Foundation, Papelbon, who declined an invitation to be on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars," and teammates Pedroia, Alex Cora, and Lowell, danced in the Cuban-themed "Dancing with the All-Stars" event (check out photos). It raised $190,000 for the Foundation through live and silent auctions, including a $32,000 bid on an authentic 2007 World Series ring. Lowell won the competition, which Papelbon called "rigged."
"I haven't had a heart attack, I think I've come close," Francona said. "My chest hurt I was laughing so hard. I got a headache I was laughing so hard. Pedroia is a moron. I mean, you can write that. Pedroia is a moron. He looked a puppet on a string."
Pedroia, for the record, ripped off his shirt to reveal "Daddy" written across his chest with glitter, throwing his shirt to team owner John Henry.
"I can't tell you," Pedroia said, of his reasons, laughing. "It's personal . . . I thought my body pulled it off and [Papelbon's] didn't."

It would be nice if you could actually HEAR what's in this video......very poor sound quality
I guess sometimes you just have to tip your hat and call Pedroia your daddy,
So, we got through an off-season without a "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" fiasco, but this is an embarrassment that will haunt them for a while.
As a Sox fan living in New Joisey I'm constantly hearing about how much more class the Yankees organization has and right now I don't have much of an argument against that belief. Come on guys - a little dignity, please!
This is not news.
Too bad "Pap" didn't accept the invitation and actually go on Dancing with the Stars!
Would have been very entertaining! Not so sure he wouldn't have been the first to leave, but would have been fun to watch!
This is part of the wonderful CHAMPION Boston Red Sox. The part where you can let your hair down, take off your shirt, laugh while you dance any old way you want to, (all for charity!), because YOU WON THE WORLD SERIES! And, they EARNED their title with real class, BOTH TIMES! So, to those few "commentors" who felt a need to comment on the Red Sox class vs. the Yankees, come on, let the guys have some off season fun as only the World Series WINNERS can, WITHOUT your criticizing. These guys are basball players, not social butterflys, you know?
Maybe the Yankees have more "class" but the Sox are way more fun. Baseball may be a business to those playing it and managing it but the reason I'm a baseball fan is that it's FUN. A lot more fun, by the way, then all those years when we WEREN'T champions.
Mike, they were raising money for Mike Lowell's charity and were pretty successful......why don't you just admit that you are a yankee troll. No true Sox fan would EVER feel they couldn't argue with a Yankee fan.
Way to go Sox. Its a game, treat it as one. have fun. Screw the yankees.
162 games from March through October.
If your team doesn't get along, it's a long season and you've got the Bronx Zoo.
Conversely, if your team has the right chemistry, then you have a greater chance of having a magical season like the '79 Pirates (remember, "we are Family"?), the '04 Sox ("Pony Up") and the 07 Sox.
As a Sox fan, I love seeing the team have fun as much as I love seeing promising Spring Training perfomances. It''s a very positive sign.
You've got stand-up guys like Lowell and 'Tek and Yuke. You've got comedians like Papi, Pap, Pedroia and yes, even Manny. You've got guys who work their tails off.
I love this team..... a great mix... great talent....great chemistry.
As far as I am concerned: Dance away guys. Have fun. Raise money for charity and win it again !!!
Yo, Mike from Joisey...This is the party town!! The team enjoys entertaining their fans! Just because the "Yanks" have pin stripes and short hair cuts does not give them more class!! Look - people in jail have stripes and short hair cuts...does that give them more "class"? Look at the one that defected and went to the Yankees, remember he was once part of the Red Sox that won the 04' World series...He wouldn't shave his beard or cut his hair when he was on the sox..now look at him, same person just got a hair cut and shaved...oh yeah, 1 less World Series trophy for him! This is one of a kind team that puts fun and comedy in their games, on and off the field. It doesn't matter how you look or the dances they do after winning a game. The team works well together to get the job done and makes it fun - - don't forget who won 2 world series in 3 years!!
WE LOVE THE SOX , GOOD LUCK, (WELL DONE ON THE DANCES)!!
talk about class i dont see any sox players getting caught with strippers in toronto.
