Wake done

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff March 23, 2008 07:57 AM

Tim Wakefield nearly got through his scheduled (sort of) six innings of work, going 5 2/3, before being removed from Bryan Corey. Wakefield allowed two runs on five hits, and struck out the final batter he faced, Seung-Youp Lee, looking. (Lee had previously gotten two of the Giants' five hits.)

Hideki Okajima, Julian Tavarez, and David Aardsma should be splitting the remainder of the innings with Corey.

  1. Hi Amalie, You mentioned that the Japanes balls are smaller. Are they using the same ball for the whole game? You might think that our pitchers would have trouble with that.

  1. The teams are using their respective baseballs when in the field. Hence, Wake was using an official MLB ball, and Drew is knocking the slightly smaller Japanese ball out of the yard.
