It's kind of nauseating to know that JD Drew is making $14M/year. I can strike out for way less than that, can they hire me please?
pretty strange when the lowest man on the totem pole makes $396,000
Nancy Drew is DEFINTELY NOT worth 14 mil. Puhleeze!
kr., it's doubtful you could have hit that granny though, which arguably won Game 6. Yes JD took advantage of the market condition then and is overpaid, but ballplayers are overpaid anyway. Do you really care he is overpaid by 4M, 8M, or 10M, whichever you consider reasonable?
Julio Lugo's 9 mil makes me pretty sick... the worst acquisition ever.
It's ironic that of the 10 highest paid players on the Sox, 5 of them will make the least contribution to the team in 2008 (Lugo, Drew, Schilling, Crisp, Varitek (at least offensively. Please-no responses on how Tek handles the pitching staff.)
JD Drew is overpaid of course, but look at the Yanks' payroll... they're overpaying the entire team. Overall, the Sox seem to have good deals on great players.
It's dum hes gettin more than Ortiz

Manny's Salary + $3MM = The entire Florida Marlins roster
At least Drew will play all year, Schilling is making $8m to rehab a bad shoulder. Mine's been messed up for years, can I get $1m?
Can someone link to the main AP article? I'd love to see other teams (especially the Yankees, Mets and Tigers) but I can't seem to google up anyone else's info. Thanks!
Yeah, but can you look as indifferent when you're nursing youself back to health on the bench? Because he's REALLY good at that. I think he's stats in that category rate him at number 3 in the majors, behind Carl Pavano and Matt Clement. I'm not sure where I saw that.
Hahahaha, i feel the very same way! I'll take even half of that

Th Drew contract is such an albatross... woah, I just hurt my back writing that. Now I'm going to sit around and mope for 3 months.
Yeah but could you have come through with clutch hitting in the postseason to help drive the sox to their second WS title in 4 years? Not that the amount of money isn't sickening regardless of the player/skill level.. Just think JD earned a break from all the hate.
J.D. seems like a nice enough guy, but unlike so many of the Sox players, he appears perfectly willing to take himself out of the lineup if he's not exactly 100%. If it aches, he's out. Embarrasingly soft for a professional athlete.
(For Aaron and others.) The 'USA Today Salaries Databases" are available at http://content.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/salaries/default.aspx. If you copy and paste, it should come with the ‘Baseball’ on the menu bar highlighted. (You also can select Basketball, Football or Hockey.) This is the best way I've found to get the data. In the Year drop-down box, select 2008 Season. Then select the Total Payroll radio button. Click Go. At the next window click on the team hyperlink to open. If you want to sort the players by salary, click on the word Salary on the table's boxhead to display high to low. If it's low to high, click Salary again to reverse it. (Baseball has the most current data and it goes back 20 years. Play with the “choose a letter” and you'll find out that Jose Canseco only made $355K in 1988.) Enjoy.
Drew bothers me, but not as much as the lack of hustle by Manny. Is it too much to ask an $18,000,000 a year player to run hard to first base on all hits. He can do the trot (if in fact the ball goes out) from the first base turn.
