TORONTO - *David Eckstein is just getting the day off so John McDonald can get a start. Eckstein gives the Jays real attitude on the field...

*Don't think I've ever seen Frank Thomas this excited about a team he's been on. "I think we have a chance to be a special team. When we get Scott (Rolen) back and all of our guys are healthy, we're a good team. I'm really excited about what's ahead."...

*Mike Lowell has the fifth highest career batting average against Toronto - .350 (63-180) - among players with 150 or more plate appearances. The best: Johnny Ray (.361), Michael Young (.357), Mike Easler (.356), Ichiro Suzuki (.351)....

* The Sean Casey error Saturday was the first by a Red Sox first baseman since Eric Hinske - June 4, 2007.

*The Sox pen has allowed 9 hits and 9 runs over its last five innings.

*Josh Beckett is 1-1 with a 6.16 ERA in three career starts at Rogers Centre....

*Beckett is 51-26 since the start of 2005, tying him with Johan Santana for most wins in that time frame...
