It's never easy to make an emergency start and that's precisely what Jon Lester was faced with this afternoon when the Sox realized Daisuke Matsuzaka was simply too sick with the flu to make his scheduled start.

Working on three days rest, Lester surrendered a one-out first-inning home run to Gary Matthews, who cleared the Monster seats. Then in the second inning, Lester allowed a pair of doubles by Jeff Mathis and Maicer Izturis to produce a run. The Sox gunned down a potential second run in the inning when Ramirez sent a strong relay to Julio Lugo on Izturis' double to gun down Casey Kotchman at the plate.

Heading into the bottom of the second inning, it's 2-0 Angels.
