Beckett gives up the lead

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff April 6, 2008 02:25 PM

TORONTO - Couple of bombs hit against Josh Beckett here in the fourth.

Vernon Wells's two-run homer on a curveball was really struck to left-center. Beckett had walked Alex Rios to lead off the inning. Frank Thomas got a Beckett fastball in his wheelhouse and sent it to the wall in left, where Manny Ramirez made the grab on a well-timed leap against the fence.

Wells now has five career homers against Beckett.

Beckett has thrown 70 pitches through four innings.

The Jays lead it, 2-1.
