Chicago teams still eyeing Coco

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff April 2, 2008 04:55 PM

OAKLAND - The two teams who have shown the most consistent interest in Coco Crisp are the Cubs and White Sox, according to a major league source familiar with both teams.

Crisp is currently playing center-field for the Sox in a 0-0 tie with the A's here in the fifth inning. The Cubs have been turned back because of what they perceive to be a high price to pay for Crisp and the Sox have never been interested in Jason Marquis. The White Sox may not match up with the Red Sox enough to get a deal done. It doesn't appear the Red Sox are in any hurry to move Crisp and will wait for the right situation.

  1. I hate to remind Jim Hendry about this sudden need for outfielders but the Cubs had Angel Pagan, Jacque Jones and Craig Monroe. All who are much better than Felix Pie ever will be. Jim Hendry really blew this off season as he only concentrated on getting Fukodome. Too late to be sorry now, Mr. Hendry. People know the talent level on this Chicago Cubs team and no one wants to make it a better team than it already is.

  1. I seriously doubt the Cubs are looking for another backup outfielder after signing Reed Johnson (which, by the way, happened BEFORE this article was written). As far as "raping our farm system," I'm not sure how much an overpaid whiny 4th outfielder commands in trade value, but I don't think the Cubs were willing to give up that much. And Hendry didn't spend all offseason concentrating on Fukudome - Fukudome signed with the cubs less than 24 hours after announcing he wanted to play in the U.S. Finally, you actually said that Jacque Jones, Craig Monroe, and Angel Pagan are better than Pie will ever be. I don't even know how to respond to that.

  1. ....I wil respond for YOU....

The only thing Jacques Jones, Craig (who) Monroe, and Angel(what's his name agian) Pagan will ever do better then Felix Pie is get out of town as fast as they came in. Pie is the Dunton of the outfield..(remember the Shawn-o-meter) He had his ups and downs (I would say mostly ups) eitherway It did take him some time to groom. Just as Pie...who by the way has incredible grooming molding, developing athletic and skill potential unmatched by any of the previous (i forgot their names already) of which you mentioned earlier. Pie's problem is is acutually playing wayyyyy to much over the past 2 1/2 to 3 years. He has had NO down time to actually let all the mechanical yada yada yada etc. etc. baseball advice from being bounce around the farm system and winter league. I personally see his lack of progression on of management.
