Consider it chipped
As we said earlier, the Sox decided to chip away, grind it out against Jered Weaver. Well, they just pulled even, 5-5.
Trailing, 5-2, entering the fifth, Dustin Pedroia led off with, what else, a double. He was driven home by David Ortiz's single to center.
Then came one tremendous play and effort by Vladimir Guerrero, who ran full bore toward the right field railing near Pesky's Pole and made a great grab of what would have been a two-run Manny Ramirez homer as he banged into the railing.
Most right fielders tread softly around that area and are a bit afraid of running too hard for fear of hitting the wall and toppling into the crowd. When Wily Mo Pena played for the Cincinnati Reds in an interleague series here, he ran with great apprehension toward the railing on a Manny drive and stopped shot of the railing, the ball bouncing off his glove into the stands for a home run.
Anyway, Kevin Youkilis did what Manny was trying to do - homered. Youkilis's two-run blast went into the Monster Seats.
