First hit

In case you were wondering, the modern record for most strikeouts to begin a game is seven, set by Joe Cowley of the White Sox on May 28, 1986. (He actually lost the game.)

Josh Beckett's streak ended at five, when he gave up a single to Eric Hinske. But Beckett struck out the final batter of the inning, Dioner Navarro, giving him six strikeouts so far. That's every single out he's gotten in this game.

It's scoreless through two innings.

  1. I am watching the mlb.com feed which has the Rays broadcasters. One of the guys just to referred to Moneyball in which Youkilis is referred to as the Greek God of Walks. The broadcaster went on to say that Youkilis should also be called the Greek God of Whining.
