Halladay an impressive ballplayer
Roy Halladay is one of the most impressive players you'll see in this game.
He entered last night's game with three consecutive complete games (two of them losses), a rarity in this day and age. Halladay started the game with a 10-10 record with a 4.81 ERA against the Sox, but he's one of the true aces in major league baseball.
"When he starts a game he wants to finish it," said Alex Cora. "He's a throwback. He battles you every step of the way. If he doesn't have his sinker, he'll try to beat you with something else. He's got that bulldog mindset. I mean to have three or four complete games in April. You just don't see that in this day and age."
Asked whether he was surprised that Toronto allows Halladay to pitch CGs, he said, "When your ace says he wants to finish, what are you gonna do? You admire that in someone."
The amazing thing is that Halladay has not thrown more than 110 pitches in any of his starts.
"He can really economize his pitches," Cora said. "He can strike you out, but he'd rather get you, ground ball, ground ball, ground ball."
