Mike Lowell has suffered a sprained left thumb after diving for a ball in the first inning.

X-rays were negative.

Lowell came out of the game in the second inning and replaced by Kevin Youkilis, who moved from first to third. Sean Casey went to first.

Lowell is considered day to-day.
