Manny gives Sox the lead

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff April 5, 2008 01:21 PM

TORONTO -- Jesse Litsch is Toronto's fifth starter and resident bulldog. Which is why it was a mistake on his part to walk David Ortiz rather than come right at him. The result was predictable: Manny Ramirez stroked a double to the left-center field gap as Ortiz motored in all the way from first base to give the Sox a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Ortiz's surgically repaired right knee certainly was tested as the big man lumbered around the bases. Ortiz has been icing the knee a lot early in the season.

Clay Buchholz takes the ball in the bottom of the first. After a tough spring training, all eyes will be on Boston's kid pitcher.
