Manny shows emotion

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff April 20, 2008 02:10 PM

The Rangers are up 2-0 in the third inning.

The biggest thing is Manny Ramirez' ejection after a called third strike on a pitch that knee-high and tad outside in the second. Manny has shown a lot more emotion this season than in the past on strike calls. It appeared to be a quick hook by home plate umpire Paul Emmel. Manny was supposed to get Monday off if Coco Crisp's hamstrings cooperated. Now maybe Manny will play and take the rest of today off. Joe Thurston took Manny's spot in left

  1. Just a cursory review of Mr. Emmel's calls of balls and strikes obviously indicates a need for a BIG TIME review by MLB. What a pathetic bleeping pile of c--p exhibition!! What is it with MLB? Do they have the resolve to review an umpire's performance, or must they continue to act like a bunch of "Panty Waists" ?

  1. I think Home playe umpire Paul emmel is very bad recall to stright, it"s supposew to call a ball because it high and outside of plate. Manny should not to have rejection, I also can see few red sox player feel like disgusted what Home plate umpire Paul had bad called several times. paul is bad judgement in the game. I suggestion that MLB need changed rule and allow that the 5th umpire need taking review replay as like NFL, NHL and NBA does have it. MLB should to take it right now or next year. I am sports fan of Boston Red Sox New England Patroits, Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins are my loyal. thank

  1. Why can't a professional baseball umpire CALL A STRIKE A STRIKE! Every game it's guessing game as to what is a strike and what isn't. I can see why the players get pissed off. It's a wonder how they don't go off each and every game!

  1. Manny is locked in and I don't think anyone is going to be upset with him showing emotion. He is the heart of this team.

  1. A lot more people buy tickets to see Manny hit baseballs than to see Umpire Emmel call balls and strikes. Looks like Major League basball ought to be showing Paul the door.

  1. This umpire was ridiculous. I was at the Sox game in Anaheim last year when Manny was tossed by a rookie ump. Eventually, Manny's replacement made a fielding error and struck out to end the game. People aren't paying these prices to see the umpires. Plus, it is fair to say that with his years in the batter's box, Manny has a better idea of the strike zone than most umpires. Also, once again, the umpire walked after the player. These umpires need to be disciplined.
