Okie gets out of a jam

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff April 22, 2008 09:38 PM

Hideki Okajima did quite a job of preserving Boston's 6-5 lead in the seventh.

After Julian Tavarez had allowed back-to-back singles to Chone Figgins and Gary Matthews to lead off the inning, Okajima came on and retired Vlad Guerrrero on a fly ball to right. Kevin Cash was then charged with an error when his throw to second base on a would-be steal wound up in center field. The runners advanced to second and third.

Okajima got Garret Anderson to pop to Kevin Youkilis at third and then challenged Torii Hunter, striking him out with an 88 m.p.h. fastball to end the inning.
