Sox swept
TORONTO - The Red Sox put up a fight in the ninth against Jays' closer Jeremy Accardo, but were swept by the Blue Jays after a 7-4 loss here before 30,114 at Rogers Centre.
The Sox had Jason Varitek and Mike Lowell at the corners with one out in the ninth.
Jacoby Ellsbury, who homered earlier in the game, had stroked a ball down the left field line that came within an inch of hitting the chalk line that might have scored one or even two runs. But on the next pitch Accardo struck him out. With two outs, Julio Lugo, 0-for-4 with three errors, ended the proceedings with a fly to center as Accardo preserved the 7-4 win for Roy Halladay.

It's time to put an end to the complaints about the Japan trip and the way the Red Sox season opened with a lengthy stay on the the road. I'm not sure who the road start bothered more -- the Sox or the reporters who travel with the Sox. No doubt, everyone in New England will be happy to see them home, but I doubt there is much sympathy among fans for any more more whining about the road games. The players knew the way the season would start; they had time to prepare; they knew they would have to travel; they don't fly commercial; they get the kind of money that allows them to make their lives easier in a alot of way that their fans do not; they have agents; they have team staff; they even have medical personnel who travel with them; they do not need to get up at 5 a.m. to go to work each day; they do not have to drive their kids to the bus stop or soccer practice. If they go out and party on most night while they are on the road, that's their choice. Yes, it wasn't the best way to start the season. No one is arguing. But now they need to let it go.
