Trust me ...
Ron Washington's complaining because David Ortiz just got a free pass to first pretty much on the strength of his word. Rupe sent one low and in, Ortiz went belly to the dirt, and when he got up it looked like he had a couple words with home plate umpire Jerry Meals, telling him the pitch got him.
That's all Meals needed.
He pointed down the first base line, and Ortiz took his stroll.
For what it's worth, the ball doesn't lie. Manny Ramirez followed up with a grounder to short that got Ortiz on a fielder's choice.
All this is a really big distraction from the big picture which is the Texas Rangers pitching staff, stuck in the corner, hands down, with George Foreman pounding at its ribs.
Sox 9, Rangers 1
(By the way ... the ball actually did clip Ortiz, but his conversation didn't hurt matters)

From an alum, and friend of Sean Casey's while we were at Richmond... GO SPIDERS! Had a few friends at VCU as well, so at least a little bit of love for the Rams. It's really exciting to have Casey on the team, and I'm truly happy that he's done as well as he has. Living in the Twin Cities I'll be there when the Sox are in town and am just hoping that Casey will still be in the lineup (although it'll be great to get Mike Lowell back soon). Maybe I'll be able to get his autograph on more than just his rookie card! Casey for mayor of Boston!
