Update on Ortiz

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff April 26, 2008 07:00 PM

Just wanted to update everyone quickly on the state of David Ortiz.

(It's a Saturday night, so there's early deadline for our print work. I'll be back on with my usual posts, and the news out of the clubhouse in a few minutes.)

Ortiz bruised his right knee, the one that was surgically repaired in the offseason, on that dive at first base last night, what Terry Francona called a "car accident." The team wants the swelling to go down on the knee, which explains why Ortiz was scratched from the lineup today.

And, yes, the move was Brandon Moss for Sean Casey, with Casey heading to the disabled list. It was a move that, under different (healthier) circumstances, the Red Sox might not have been forced to make.
