Wang wins

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff April 11, 2008 10:02 PM

Save for that home run by J.D. Drew, the one that ticked off the glove of Bobby Abreu into the bullpen in right field, Chien-Ming Wang would have been on a historic level. Until Coco Crisp bunted for an infield single with two outs in the ninth, that is.

So it ended as a two hitter for the Yankee starter, a 4-1 win over the Red Sox, as the teams renewed their rivalry tonight at Fenway Park.

And Wang did it in fewer than 100 pitches (93 to be exact), throwing the complete game in a timely (especially for Red Sox-Yankees) 2 hours, 59 minutes. Mike Timlin took the loss.
