Youk ties record

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff April 26, 2008 09:05 PM

On that 5-3 play from Jed Lowrie, Kevin Youkilis tied the major league record for most consecutive chances handled at first base without an error. He's now at 1,700 chances, and his next will give him sole possession of the record that was held by Stuffy McInnis, who completed the feat between May 31, 1921 and June 2, 1922. (Though McInnis might have used a slightly different type of glove...)

Youkilis's last error at first base came on July 4, 2006 at Tampa Bay.

Youkilis threw the ball into the stands. We'll see what he does when he breaks it.
