Bases on balls

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff May 5, 2008 07:52 PM

That was Daisuke Matsuzaka's fourth walk of the game, when he walked Curtis Granderson on just four pitches to open the third inning. Sure, he hasn't given up any hits, but he has also thrown more balls than strikes, as he hits 50 (a strike) to Placido Polanco. Of his first 50, 26 were balls.

That's not good news for Matsuzaka -- or for the bullpen.
