Buchholz optioned to Pawtucket
BALTIMORE - Clay Buchholz was removed from the 15-day disabled list and optioned to Pawtucket. Buchholz had been on a rehab assignment with a ripped fingernail on his right middle finger. With Bartolo Colon pitching well, the Sox likely will give Buchholz a little more seasoning.
Terry Francona, Theo Epstein, Pawtucket manager Ron Johnson, and John Farrell held a conference call with Buchholz to map out plans for the young righty.

Smart move by the Sox. Clay has got tons of potential and there is no sense of him ruining what progress he has made to this point
I think they should let Buchholz start 3 or 4 games with the Paw Sox just to give him this so called "seasoning." Let's be honest, Colon has a history of showing bright signs of and then blundering horribly. Give Colon a little time to see where he is going. If he follows suite as usual you move him to the pen, pop Buchholz back into the rotation and option Henson or someone else to the Paw Sox. Honestly I think Hensen is about to become our set-up man. He is ready! I would leave him up and give him the 8th with Oki.
I don't see him coming back for a while. They had to choose between Wakefield and Buchholz in the starting rotation. They could have moved Wakefield to the pen but moving Buchholz to the pen wasn't and option. He needs to throw.
Let's see what happens. I don't see him back up soon with the way Colon is throwing. Unless they are willing to move Wakefield out there is no regular slot for him.
