Colon gives up a run

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff May 21, 2008 08:33 PM

Bartolo Colon surrendered the go-ahead run in the fifth on an Alex Gordon single to right field. The good news is Colon made sure things didn't get out of hand.

No. 9 hitter Joey Gathright reached on a bunt single to open the fifth and leadoff man David DeJesus lofted a single over shortstop. With the runners at first and second, Mark Grudzielanek moved the runners to scoring position with a sac bunt and Gordon's single only scored one of the runs. That's where Colon went to work, spotting his fastball, and getting Guillen to pop out and struck out Teahen on a called third strike.

It's 2-1 Royals.
