Welcome to the Metrodome, where the Red Sox face the Twins tonight.

We just learned that the San Diego Padres have acquired righthanded pitcher Bryan Corey from the Red Sox for a player to be named or cash.

Corey, who was outrighted to Triple A Pawtucket April 30, has posted a 10.50 ERA (7 ER/6.0 IP) in seven relief appearances over two stints with the Red Sox this season. The 34-year-old also has appeared in five games in relief over two stints with Pawtucket, recording one save and tossing 5 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

Originally selected by the Tigers in the 12th round of the 1993 draft, Corey is 3-1 with a 4.40 ERA in 52 career relief appearances over parts of five seasons with the Diamondbacks (1998), Dodgers (2002), Rangers (2006) and Red Sox (2006-08). He played one minor league season in the Padres organization, going 8-7 with a 4.67 ERA in 47 games (12 starts) with Triple A Portland in 2001.
