Gambling man

That would be DeMarlo Hale, who waved around J.D. Drew with Matt Joyce getting to Jason Varitek's single in short left field. But Hale gambled that Drew would beat a throw. In fact, the throw was far wide of the plate (third base side) and hit Drew as he was heading home.

That picked up two for the Sox, who lead the game 2-0.

Meanwhile, Justin Verlander looks awful. He's been bouncing balls, throwing them where Brandon Inge isn't set up, and generally is throwing off-target right now, as evidenced by Julio Lugo being hit by a pitch (elbow). He's also thrown a wild pitch tonight.

I guess that's how you end up at 1-5 with an ERA north of 6.

  1. Anybody remember the last time DeMarlo made a bad decision from the box? It's been a while...that's for sure.
