Ichiro....Mays
We just saw a catch we'll remember for a long time.
Perennial Gold Glover Ichiro just performed a Willie Mays, robbing Jason Varitek of extra bases, and the Red Sox of a run with a running catch in which he ran full tilt toward the center-field wall with his back to the ball. He reached up and made the catch before transferring the ball into his open hand as he crashed into the wall. One of the best catches you'll ever see.
The Boston Globe and Boston.com will keep you updated on the Red Sox all season long.

That was an amazing catch. And he even used his hand with the ball in it to hold onto his hat.
Ichiro pays much attention to his physical condition. He admits that It does not become him to try a diving catch or to run full tilt toward the wall to catch a ball. He rarely tries a risky play. What was the driving force of his super-play then? It was a game against Yankees on the previous day. In the 8th inning, he couldn't catch a batted ball of Jose Molina for two reasons(which I do not mention in detail), and Marinners lost the game. After the game he said to the Japanese media, he felt that American jounalists seemed to think that "he" could have made the catch. The atomosphere made him determined to catch the ball, so he says. Poor Varitek. Ill luck for the Sox. It was American newswriters that originated Ichiro's super-play.
