Lineups and news

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff May 17, 2008 01:54 PM

Good afternoon from a lovely sunny day at Fenway Park. It's a whole lot better than it was last night here, though it seems that we'll be having quite the lengthy day at the park. Just remember, if you're coming in for the second game, that there will most likely be quite the traffic jam outside, given that about 35,000 people will be entering and exiting at roughly the same time.

As for the Red Sox, Hideki Okajima has a bit of a wrist injury, which the Red Sox will be monitoring. It doesn't appear serious enough that he will need a stint on the disabled list, but it will be checked out.

Mike Lowell is just getting a rest with three games to be played in about 36 hours.

Coco Crisp is not quite 100 percent, after working through his illness earlier this week, but said he can pinch run or play defense (or even pinch hit) in the first game. He might even be able to play in the second. He had a bit of vertigo, he said, something that came with the headaches. The pain was apparently about an eight on a 1 to 10 scale. It was not, however, bad enough that he was prevented from driving.

We'll be back with more...

But, for now, here are the lineups:

Red Sox

1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
3. David Ortiz, DH
4. Manny Ramirez, LF
5. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
6. J.D. Drew, RF
7. Jason Varitek, C
8. Sean Casey, 1B
9. Julio Lugo, SS

Daisuke Matsuzaka, SP

Brewers

2. Mike Cameron, CF
3. Ryan Braun, LF
4. Prince Fielder, DH
5. Corey Hart, RF
6. J.J. Hardy, SS
7. Joe Dillon, 1B
8. Bill Hall, 3B
9. Jason Kendall, C

  1. Ms. Brown, I mean Benjamin (Ha Ha)...Forgive me for sending this comment to you but I've tried every other means...I am worried that tonight's game on NESN will be blacked out for those of us "out of market" because the originally scheduled programming at that time would have been. This afternoon's replay of last night's game (which clearly didn't happen) is blacked out because that was on the schedule...no one at DirecTV seems to know there is a game tonight, it's not on the MLB channels, they say it's NESN's responsibility ... no one at NESN answers the phone. I know this is way outside the scope of your job, but can you tip off the NESN people that Red Sox Nation outside of New England doesn't want to see "this program is not available in your area" at 8:35 tonight? Thank you.

  1. I would love an answer to RSN Florida's question. I'm in Florida and have
Direct Tv. I looked forward to an afternoon and evening of Red Sox baseball.
I have nothing. I have to "watch" the games on my computer. It's not great to pay to see all the games and not get them.

  1. So far here in New England NESN is still showing some golf prgramming instead of even the regularley sceduled classic games, so I hope we get to watch the game at all

  1. I called Directv and informed "Nicole" that the programmers seemed clueless about the game tonight, or if not, that would be a first as they have done that before. This afternoon's game was on Fox however so NESN would have been showing the old Red Sox rerun which is blacked out under some other stupidMLB rule.Nicole at directv told me she would pass the word to the all-powerful programmers.

  1. I'll third that. I'm in Northern California and had to watch the Angels and Dodgers this afternoon (bah). Not seeing tonight's game will be extremely disappointing.

  1. Same here.... I live in the Evil Empire.. and direct tv is just not cutting it as far as red Sox coverage. I was able to see the Ultimate Red Sox a few times. Then one time I was watching it and 22 minutes in.. black screen. I get that some replayed games dont get shown, but come on.. not showing a freaking sports news recap show?????? WHY? I want to see the news and commentary, especially since I can't be living there. The redsox Rewind is not available, lots of RedSox commentary isnt. So what am I paying for?

  1. Gee, I live in Florida and have watched both games! Afternoon on FOX and tonight on NESN by way of the baseball package thru Comcast!

  1. DISH network showed the second game but not the HD version. They have somebody flip a switch whenever there is a game. Then as soon as the game is over they switch off the HD coverage. So I guess they were unaware there was a game. I mean the crew who watches over their HD telecasts, but at least we got the SD broadcast.
