Lugo breaks tie

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff May 21, 2008 08:47 PM

Julio Lugo's single up the middle passed a drawn-in infield has given the Sox a 3-2 lead in the fifth. After Jason Varitek's home run tied it, Coco Crisp continued with a hustle double to left-center. After a wild pitch, Lugo delivered.

The Sox have continued the inning with a single by Ellsbury, but the Royals have made a pitching change. Former Sox replacement player Ron Mahay has relieved starter Brett Tomko with Dustin Pedroia due up and runners at first and second with one out.
