Lugo makes another error
MINNEAPOLIS - Is it getting to the point where you just feel sorry for Julio Lugo?
It seems every ball hit to him is an adventure. You can tell he's in that 'hit it anywhere but to me" mode. In the second inning, two outs, Adam Everett at second base after he'd doubled, Carlos Gomez hits a routine grounder to short. To be fair, any shortstop in that situation has to rush because Gomez can beat out routine grounders with his incredible speed. But Lugo fumbled. Pure and simple.
It was Lugo's 11th error. Unfortunately for the Red Sox, it opened the floodgates for a two-run single by Brendan Harris.
It's 4-2 Twins in the the third.

Nick,
I am starting to feel sorry for the pitchers. Lester had 2 more runs and about 10 more pitches. Time for Lowrie
SORRY?
I have no sympathy for Lugo who has made me pine for the days of Rent-A-Wreck. He will blow away Renteria's 30 errors before the All-Star Break. It is far and away the worst signing Theo ever conceived, too many years and too much money for a mediocrity who now aspires to his former, lame level of supreme average-ness.
I dream of the day that Theo announces it was a terrible signing and releases him so that Lowrie can take over. So no, I do not feel sympathy. What I hope is that the fans at Fenway will make Lugo's life so miserable that he begs to be traded.
If we aren't keeping Lugo around for defense, why the hell do we still have him. Send Theo to shortstop evaluation class and get Lowrie up full time pronto. This is ridiculous. He cost us the game on Wednesday, now he's bucking for the two-fer this week already, and he thinks he's actually a good shortstop to boot. What a crock...
OH YEAH - I TOTALLY PITY A MULTI-MILLIONAIRE WHO DOESN'T GET HIS JOB DONE NIGHT IN AND NIGHT OUT.
CORA FOR PERMANENT SS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unbelievable this is getting old and crazy. Julio has done nothing here in Boston. This guy should not be back next year!!!!
at this point, I could name 10 other players on the current 25 man roster I would rater have at SS over Lugo...and 3 of them are pitchers.
I am sick of Lugo's G-Complex (God Complex), the pompous attitude after making an error and the constant stepping out of the batters box and calling timeout. Just stay in the box and swing he bat, enough with the stepping out. Angel Hernandez, who is one of the worst umpires in baseball but is right, stay in the box, keep the game moving. Why are you stepping out? he calls timeout way too much for a guy who couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat.
This game should be tied 2-2!
LOWRIE FOR SS
I am not sorry one bit because you no what Lugo is gonna do he is gonna go to his nice big mansion and count his money for playing awfull!!
Lowrie!!!!
How soon we forget the "Mother's Day Miracle" game winning hit...
About this time last year, Lugo was hitting below .200 when the club returned to Fenway after a road trip. Upon Lugo's first at-bat, the crowd started in with a cadenced "Let's Go Lu-go" chant.
He didn't snap out of it right away, but he did procede to hit a respectable .280 for the remainder of the season. Lugo credited the fans that night for buoying his spirits and enabling him to help the club to the Word Series Championship.
I hate errors as much as anybody, but this guy is our shortstop...like it or not...and he responds better to encouragent than to vitriol.
Lugo = Gagne 2007
Lugo is Gagne 2.0
Lugo needs to sit or go. Immediately.
I agree this will probably be a signing Epstein regrets later on.
Bob Ryan could probably do a better job at SS
not for 36 million. get a clue...or a quote from ricardi.
Nick: What? Are you kidding? "Feel sorry" for Lugo!?!
I wish someone paid me 36 mil to be the worst shortstop in MLB.
Enough, Theo, admit the mistake and put Lowrie or Cora in there.
twins got runs off of Lugos error last night and I'm putting all the blame on him for the past two games
Lugo is a lose cannon......... all over the field chasing pop-ups and getting into other players way and then fumbling routine grounders. the other players seem to have to watch out that this guy doesn't run into them. His offense isn't that great either. Maybe a trip to the minor leagues would be in the best interest of the Red Sox.
