Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff May 28, 2008 01:06 AM

SEATTLE - The Mariners beat the Red Sox, 4-3, on Jose Lopez's single down the left field line against Mike Timlin in the bottom of the ninth inning.

The key was a infield hit to shortstop (Alex Cora) by Wladimir Balentein, who was sacrficed to second base. After he advanced to third on a ground out, the Sox walked Ichiro intentionally before Lopez came through.
