Ortiz back in

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff May 5, 2008 06:15 PM

Though David Ortiz has been struggling with tendinitis in his right knee, caused by the dive into first base in Tampa last weekend, he is back in the lineup tonight at designated hitter. But that doesn't mean that he's all the way better.

"We kind of went back and forth a few times," manager Terry Francona said. "[We] actually usually put the lineup up much earlier than we did, but I wanted to talk to him in person. I think as the weather gets warmer that's one thing that'll really help. The weather didn't help the last couple days. He was on base a bunch the other night and kind of felt it when he came in for a day game [on Sunday]. But I also told him, like tomorrow, we're going to look at the broad, big picture, and not run him into the ground. So we'll just keep checking with him. He's got that spot that I guess they term it tendinitis, but it hurts."
