Papelbon saves the game

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff May 10, 2008 09:50 PM

Don't worry. After two straight losses and blown saves, Jonathan Papelbon righted his ship to preserve a 5-2 Sox win before 33,839 at the Metrodome.

The Sox closer had an easy inning, including a strikeout, a broken-bat ground ball out, and finally a 92 m.p.h. fastball past pinch hitter Craig Monroe for the final out. Of course, the bizarre also entered the mix when Mike Lamb hit the roof on a popup in front of the mound with two outs, which put him on first base. He took second on defensive indifference, but it didn't matter.

  1. Is it me or is Pap getting a bit over used lately, and his velocity is suffering for it?
