Payton's Place

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff May 14, 2008 05:24 PM

BALTIMORE - Jay Payton will not have to buy a drink in Baltimore tonight.

The former Sox outfielder scorched an 0-1 Hideki Okajima fastball, low and inside part of the plate and pulled it over the left field fence for a grand slam giving the Orioles a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the 7th. Payton was playing left field and batting second in today's lineup.

The majority of this crowd of 28,939 seems to be Orioles fans and they went wild.
