Sox hold a slim lead

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff May 4, 2008 04:24 PM

The seventh inning was not kind to Manny Delcarmen, but it was to Kevin Youkilis.

The Sox reliever allowed a single to Jason Bartlett and a triple to Akinori Iwamura before Terry Francona pulled the plug and brought on Hideki Okajima to face Carl Crawford. That didn't work out too well either, as Crawford, singled to the left side, scoring Iwamura. Okajima got out of further peril by striking out B.J. Upton and Carlos Pena.

Youkilis homered to straightaway center - his third - against Dan Wheeler to increase the lead to 5-3.
