Sox holding slim lead

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff May 14, 2008 05:00 PM

BALTIMORE - The Sox could escape this 10-game trip 5-5 if they hold on to a 3-2 lead here in the bottom of the 7th.

Javier Lopez is replacing Jon Lester to open the 7th. Lester allowed two runs in the sixth, allowing three hits including an RBI single by Nick Markakis, while another run scored on a Jay Payton ground out.

Lester's line: 6 IP, 5H,2R, 2BB, 4Ks. He threw 86 pitches.

  1. Did Jon Lester really pitch that badly after 86 pitches that they had to take him out after the 6th? Our bullpen has enough holes in it. Do we have to continue to test fate???

  1. Somebody please tell me why Jon Lester found himself sitting in the dugout after only 86 pitches? Anyone? Is 86 pitches the new 115 pitches? I'm baffled.
