Sox tie it

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff May 9, 2008 08:54 PM

MINNEAPOLIS - Sox wasted little time in tying this game at 2.

Kevin Youkilis reached on wild pitch by Boof Bonser on a strikeout and then proceeded to steal second base. Drum roll: It was Boston's 21st consecutive stolen base, which according to Elias, is the most bases stolen consecutively by a Red Sox team ever since it became an official statistic in 1920.

After J.D. Drew singled, Jason Varitek knocked in the run with a single. Carlos Gomez committed a throwing error allowing Varitek to second, but it was Julio Lugo's ground out which scored the second Sox run.

  1. How much of an OBP machine is Kevin Youkilis, you ask? He reaches base even when he strikes out!

  1. How can Lugo face his teammates night after night? How can he take is paycheck with a straight face? In any other profession if someone was this inept they would be fired.

And mostly, the same management gave Lugo a 4 year deal yet they wouldn't give Lowell more than a 3 year deal. The remaining question is what NL team will the Sox be paying next season to take Lugo?

  1. Hey Nick,

Stop being "fair!" A Babe Ruth league shortstop would have made these plays!
NINE MILLION DOLLARS! Holy %$#@!! This is a joke!
