That's it for Wake

Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff May 6, 2008 09:12 PM

No shutout for Tim Wakefield tonight.

With 98 pitches behind him, Wakefield exits the game. Mike Timlin is now in. It's still 5-0, Red Sox.

Timlin is now tied for ninth all-time in appearances with 1,022.

  1. Is there a more professional player anywhere in MLB than Tim Wakefield?

Clearly agreeing with Tito that it was best to leave the game...even while working a shutout...so that Timlin could get an inning of work in is just the latest in a long line of selfless acts that make this guy one of the game's true Class Acts.

His teammates were literally all over him with high-five's as he left for the clubhouse.

    Great outing, Wake.

  1. He wasn't always such a professional. Remember the days when he used to go from starting to closing to middle relief? He was not shy about expressing his displeasure to the media about that at the time. That being said, he was great in last night's game and I hope he keeps it up.
