The Captain and Manny

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff May 14, 2008 04:08 PM

BALTIMORE - Jason Varitek has homered to center field in the fifth on a 3-2 count from Daniel Cabrera to give the Sox a 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Manny Ramirez saved a run or two with with a very nice catch in left.

Maybe Manny will win a Gold Glove as is his aspiration. OK, more like the Silver Glove.

But he made a very nice running over-the-shoulder catch of Kevin Millar's drive to left field in the fourth which prevented a run and maybe two runs from scoring. Ramirez then threw in to second baseman Dustin Pedroia, who threw to first base to double up Aubrey Huff, who had no belief that Ramirez would reach the ball.

Ramirez has often quipped about winning the "Silver Glove" and has clearly improved defensively.
