Today's lineup
Welcome back to Detroit. Tonight's lineup is a bit different than the one the Red Sox trotted out last night.
1. Crisp, CF
2. Pedroia, 2B
3. Ortiz, DH
4. Ramirez, LF
5. Lowell, 3B
6. Youkilis, 1B
7. Drew, RF
8. Cash, C
9. Lugo, SS
Wakefield, P

Enough with Crisp - TRADE him!!!!!
He's hitting over .300, covers tremendous ground in center field, steals bases/plays small ball and has no one behind him in the outfield rotation that he is "blocking" from much-needed developmental at-bats. What possible reason do they have to trade him?
Bill -- You can't trade Crisp right now without hurting the team. Having the rotation with Ellsbury and Drew is actually working out pretty well in my opinion, and with Ortiz's knee troubles, it allows Jacoby to play in left and Manny to DH on the nights when Papi is out of the lineup. What's your solution if they trade Crisp? And what do you actually expect to get in return for an injury-prone fourth outfielder type?
Why would we trade him when we don't have a fourth outfielder? That makes no sense. Crisp has been productive, he can field and he has speed. Who would you rather have as a fourth outfielder?
Keep Coco. With Drew getting injured all the time and manny getting older, we can get him enough playing time to keep him happy. If Ortiz' knee bothers him we can also move Manny to DH. Let other GM's come to the Red Sox with offers but don't look to trade him for the sake of trading him.
Ellsbury, unless hurt, should be playing each day. If that means Crisp sits ... then he sits. If he doesn't like it, too bad.
Let Crisp get some at-bats and a chance to raise his trade value. Then trade him. If he only decreases, cut your losses. For the time being he still provides a great outfield glove, good speed on the bases, and versatility at the plate - (pinch-hitting, hit and runs, bunts)
Everyone should relax a bit. It's early May, and the Sox are in first place.
Maybe that is why they are playing him! Don't forget who the next outfielder is with Moss on the DL....Julio Lugo. I don't know about you but I like Crisp covering the large outfield in the Motor City.
Why the rush to trade Crisp? Who would be a better 4th outfielder? As long as he isn't making waves, why not let him be the bench outfielder? Plus - he has had decent success against tonight's starter...
If you trade Crisp, who is the bench OF? Don't say Moss or Kielty...
Given the injuries, Crisp is pretty valuable to the team right now - certainly more valuable than anyone they would get in a trade. I don't know about having him lead off, though.
Good to see Papi in the lineup.
Good thing those who get PAID to make Red Sox decisions make GOOD ones ...I like Coco, he's been super for this team, and we've needed both Crisp and Ellsbury several games already this year. I don't know why people have to be so MEAN. Why can't they ENJOY this fabulous team just the way it is???????
i am tried of seeing lugo in the lineup, we are stuck with him for 2 1/2 more years. while lowire sits on the bench
Ellsbury without any doubt should be starting. We NEED to trade Crisp. Honestly. How many years does Varitek have left? He is getting extremely old. We need a good, reliable catcher and face it - Cash is not it. We can trade Crisp for a good catching prospect. We don't need an extra outfielder. Moss is only out for a few weeks and Lugo can play outfield. He sucks as shortstop, it can't get worse than what he's doing now. Even if Lugo doesn't play outfield how many outfield prospects are there in the farm system? Most likely too many. There has to be someone we can put in. If we don't trade him soon, we are going to lose out on something great.
Bob and Bill have minds as small as their names...
Coco is the man and was invaluable to last year's Championship team. He provides a safety net in so many ways, and I really hope we hold onto him for the entire year. My only worry is that he might become uneasy not playing everyday, but if Tito can somehow keep him happy, our chances of repeating are very strong.
Keep him!
1. He's got speed. With him and Lugo and Ellsbury cranking up the running attack, it's a whole new game for this club, one that nicely compliments the--let's get runners on and hope one of the sluggers can tag one.
2. He can play center field. With the relief pitchers (all of them) getting tagged for deep drives, he's the man they want to see playing behind them.
Dana, the Sox have a couple catching prospects...I'm pretty sure Cash is not the catcher of the future. They just don't want to bring up their best prospects to play every 5th day, playing everyday in the minors is more valuable.
As far as Coco goes, what do you look for in a 4th outfielder? A defensive replacement, check. Pinch runner with speed on the bases, check. Decent hitter who can get on base many different ways (bunt singles, walks, base hits), check. Someone who can start games if a starter is hurt or needs a day off, check. I don't see what is wrong with keeping Coco since he can be used in just about every way possible.
Amazing . . . .
What the heck is wrong with some of you people. Trade Coco? Are you nuts? Well, you surely are Red So fans. Only a Sox fan when they are in 1st place can scream that the sky is falling. The guy can hit, field, has speed and can create havoc on the base paths. Anybody remember how much it would drive you crazy every time you'd see Kenny Lofton on base? You just knew he was going to steal 2nd and a lot of times 3rd base. THAT's what Coco brings to us so please stop trying to get rid of him. Jacoby has a nice long career ahead of him. Platooning for another year or so is only going to make him better as he adjusts to the bigs.
There will be plenty of time to trade Coco, if that is what the front office intends to do. But the time is not right. It may happen close to the trading deadline, if the Red Sox are in need of a missing piece, perhaps in the bullpen. For now, Crisp is one of the best in the league defensively, and he is hitting when he does play.
Let's wait and see ellsbury's stats once he has been around the league a couple of times. No election to the Hall of Fame yet.
Trade Him he is a wast of money for sitting and Ellsbury is going to be asome for like 10-12 years`
Crisp does an excellent job, and provides outstanding depth. To trade him would be foolish, to say the least
I don't see Lugo as the Sox shortstop of the future (this position has become like the Professor of the Dark Arts job at Hogwarts for you Harry Potter readers). But I'm not sure Lowrie is quite ready. Once Cora and Casey return, he should head back to Pawtucket to get in some serious work at short. That for the long term would be better for him & the team than his continuing to do utility duty in the bigs.
I think Ellsbury is overrated - atthis juncture of his career. OK, dont yell at me - but he played in 33 games last year and how many this year? He is not the greatest thing since sliced bread - YET, BUT, he may be, but we need to see what this year and next bring us. This is why we still need Coco. I am a huge fan of Ellsbury, but he is a rookie and will be until this year ends. Give him time to develop.
