Twins rock Wakefield

Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff May 11, 2008 08:42 PM

Craig Monroe hit a three-run homer and Adam Everett added a two-run shot in the second inning off Tim Wakefield to give the Twins a 5-0 lead.

While Wakefield is always tough in domes, it was obvious the knuckleball was staying over the fat part of the plate a little too long. Monroe always has hit Wakefield well, dating to his Tigers days, when he hit .316 with two homers vs. Wakefield.

The weak-hitting Everett never had faced Wakefield.

The Red Sox entered the game 2-8 in domes this season. Wakefield was 3-1 with a 3.33 ERA so far. He pitched an eight-inning, two-hit 5-0 win over Detroit earlier on this road trip. Wakefield got out of the inning after allowing a single (and stolen base) to Carlos Gomez.

At one point Julian Tavarez started warming up.
